Armed Liberal had an intriguing post over at the always engaging Winds of Change on the Western roots of Islamism that I missed because I didn't want to risk taking my iBook poolside -- he posted it on July 4. I'll have more to say on it tomorrow, but some of it seems a bit off.
Posted by Ideofact at July 8, 2004 12:39 AMI'm really looking forward to hearing from you on this; I'm going off the grid for the weekend (Laguna Seca WSB), but will check in Monday.

Posted by: Armed Liberal at July 8, 2004 02:01 AMThe thesis seems similar to that of Terror and Liberalism by Paul Berman. I don't do it justice, but one of Berman's points is that a fascination with suicide as a measure of commitment was one of the Islamists's borrowings. Berman found English translations of part of In the Shade of the Qur'an and explains what he found.
I appreciate your analysis of Qutb's work very much, by the way.
